Project PLAY is led by a team of early childhood education experts at Michigan State University in Michigan, USA and Dar es Salaam University College of Education in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. We develop contextually-relevant approaches to play-based learning for teachers in low-income settings.

Dr. Bethany Wilinski

Dr. Bethany Wilinski

Dr. Wilinski is Associate Professor of Teacher Education at Michigan State University. She taught primary school in Bukoba, Tanzania from 2005-2007 and since that time has led and contributed to teacher training and curriculum development projects in Tanzania. Her research in Tanzania and the U.S. explores how policy mandates shape teachers’ classroom practice and experiences. She is currently working with colleagues at DUCE on play-based learning projects.

Dr Subilaga Mwakyusa Kejo

Dr. Subilaga Mwakyusa Kejo

Dr. Subilaga Mwakyusa Kejo is a Lecturer in the Department of Educational Psychology and Curriculum Studies at DUCE. She has experience in developing, reviewing and evaluating curriculum and curriculum materials including syllabus, textbooks and teachers’ guides for pre-primary and primary levels as well as teacher education. Her research interests mainly include Learning through play in early childhood education and Early literacy.

Dr. Maregesi Manyonyi Machumu

Dr. Maregesi Manyonyi Machumu

Dr. Maregesi Manyonyi Machumu is a Lecturer in the Department of Educational Psychology and Curriculum Studies at the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE). He holds a Ph.D in Education from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Dr. Machumu also holds an M.A. (Applied Social Psychology) and a B.A (Education) from the University of Dar es Salaam. His research areas of interest include Child protection, Developmental psychology, children’s learning, linking play and learning, integrating STEM in early years teaching, early literacy development, monitoring and evaluation, learning assessment, and professional development.
